Florist Puni Petals’ West Hollywood Apartment Is Blooming with Colour

The Thai-born floral designer moved in sight-unseen and created a pastel-hued paradise.

Welcome to The Makers. Each week, we celebrate innovators, artisans, and crafters of all types by taking you on a private tour of their creative spaces. For this instalment, we tour floral designer Puni of Puni Petals colourful apartment in West Hollywood.

Finding a new home can be a gruelling process, but for floral designer Puni, aka Puni Petals, the search for her West Hollywood apartment couldn't have been more simple.

“I found it on Craigslist and came sight unseen from Thailand!” she shares with Bed Threads Journal. “I came here without knowing what it was really going to look like outside of a tiny screen.”

And while finding her space might have been quick, decorating it has not. Her vibrant and eclectic abode is the result of meticulous collecting and patience. “It takes forever to build a space that reflects who you are and the stories that make up your life – I think styling/decorating a home takes years and years and it should be an ever-changing journey,” Puni says.

The off-white walls are mere canvases for her growing art collection, bespoke ceramics, and alluring floral arrangements which live harmoniously among her playful objets d’art and vintage furniture pieces. “I love a balance of something old, something new, some neutrals, some pops of colour… Your home shouldn’t feel like everything is bought all at the same time from one single catalogue.”

I never really had a choice but to make this my home, and I really did through the life I’ve lived here.

Living in Los Angeles, there’s no shortage of vintage furniture resellers; and over the past year, Puni has invested both time and money selecting new items for her home. “I’ve been gathering chairs from vintage IG channels like @drex.drex.drex and @sameoldla.”

Among the various additions Puni has made to her apartment, one of her favourites is her rug from Cold Picnic, “The blue is so beautiful on the warm hardwood floors – though my cat, Henri, seems to agree and has lovingly set his cute little claws in it too… But such is life!”

Being a budding florist wasn’t always on the cards for the self-confessed “creative slashie”, but rather a “phase that never really ended”. Puni loves how it sits in that sweet spot between “Stopping to Smell the Roses” and “Instant Gratification”. “You are able to make something beautiful out of nothing so instantly, while also slowing down and taking time to observe the beauty in nature and everyday things.”

If you’re looking for a lesson in styling floral arrangements amongst the decor in your home, take a leaf out of Puni’s book – or better yet, take a petal. “Some people think that it has to be this huge ordeal, but on the contrary, a single bunch of tulips compositionally cut and placed in a vase of your choice will do wonders.” And for those who don’t have the time or money to head to their local flower market “branches and leaves add architectural lines and intrigue to your home – and they last longer too!”
