Everyone on Instagram Is Obsessed With These Decor Trends Right Now

Here at Bed Threads, we’re all about the quick fixes when it comes to interior design. Sometimes, it’s simply not possible to make major home overhauls, either because of lack of time, lack of budget, or lack of inspiration. A quick fix or a simple switch is exactly what you need when you’re in a design funk.

A small change is perfect for those moments when you have limited time or funds to make improvements to your home. Don’t worry if you’re not able to undertake a large scale renovation, or if you don’t have the energy to repaint your walls, or can’t afford to overhaul your interior design. Making little switches or trying one of these design hacks will be enough to update and elevate your space, giving it the refresh you crave right now.

These things can be as simple as mixing and matching your sheets, trying a different style of candle or putting something new on display. These hacks are simple, quick and affordable, using items you might already have in your home. Time to update!

Try a tapered candle

Scented candles have long been an interior design favourite, but tapered candles – the long kind that used to be used in candelabras at dinner parties – are making a comeback. In particular, coloured tapered candles, resting in simple ceramic or metal candle holders, to liven up a space. Because of their height, tapered candles make more of a statement than other kinds of candles, and when bought in different shades – we’re in love with dusty hues of sage, lavender and apricot right now, and you can buy a few of each to mix and match, given that tapered candles are so affordable – they add an elegant shot of colour to a room. Plus, there’s something very sophisticated and glamorous about a tapered candle, especially right now.

Change the way you display your art

One way to quickly change the mood of a room is to rearrange your artworks. You could try a salon hang, which means grouping multiple prints and portraits together on one wall. Or, you could look at installing a picture shelf, where you can style smaller framed pieces alongside glassware, ceramics and other trinkets. Another popular artwork display style is simply to prop paintings and prints against the wall, or leaning them against any flat surface. Casual and relaxed, this style of displaying prints is perfect for when you want to create a more easygoing mood in your home.

Let there be light

Lighting is a huge part of the look and feel of your rooms, which means that a small change in lighting can have a major impact. Simply by switching up the shades of your existing light fittings, whether it be ceiling lights or lamps on your bedside table or floor, will change the warmth and diffusion of light in your home. If you’re looking to really mix it up, try a colourful or printed shade. A new shade will change the way the light looks in your room, and the addition of an extra colour will make for a fun interior design update.

On display

Beautiful dishes, trays and other presentation pieces shouldn’t stay in cupboards, wasting away until the next dinner party. Get out all your nice glassware and ceramics and use them to display things in your home. A bowl of oranges or lemons makes for a fantastic centrepiece on a coffee table and a small glass vase or cylinder can be used to store everything from pens and pencils to odds and ends in your bathroom. Putting everyday items on display in beautiful, special vessels is the key to elevating a space.

Mix and match your sheets

This might be a hack that you’ve already applied in your home, but if you’re yet to mix it up when it comes to your bedsheets now is the time. Nothing updates your bedroom quite like a multicoloured linen set, adding colour, vibrancy and life to the space. If you already have a few full sets of sheets it couldn’t be more simple: cherry pick from what you have and mix and match to create a colourful bedding setup. You will be surprised by just how many colours go together. (Here at Bed Threads, we think that you can make pairings out of every colour that we have for sale, even ones that you’re not convinced will work.) Be bold, and be creative.
