The Nook: Inside the Cosy London Bedroom of Photographer Emma Hoareau

Welcome to The Nook, our weekly series chronicling the dreamy bedrooms of our favourite people on Instagram. For this instalment, we take you inside the warm, inviting home of London-based photographer and influencer Emma Hoareau.

You could call Emma Hoareau a blogger, but that would be selling her short. She's also a photographer, writer, skincare geek, and, yes, the brains behind beauty blog Lolita Says So. But more than all those things, Emma is known for her raw, intimate and aesthetically on-point Instagram account, and her dedication to sharing her skincare knowledge with her followers. Following her on Instagram feels like having your beauty-obsessed best friend right in your pocket; there when you need her with the best product advice and makeup inspiration.

Since graduating university, Emma has worked as beauty editor at Notion magazine, and written hundreds if not thousands of words for publications on skincare and beauty. After spending some time in Australia working the beauty beat of local magazines and digital publications, she relocated back to London. She was also the very first #ITGtopshelfie, which Into the Gloss super-fans will understand is a very huge deal.

Emma moved into her current London flat about a year ago, at which time she began sharing more of her interior style. When it comes to decorating, she likes to stay within a dreamy, feminine colour palette, with soft furnishings and warm lighting. Her bedroom is filled with vintage finds and her bed is clad with Rust and Terracotta linen, creating a cosy sanctuary for rest and relaxation.

We caught up with Emma to chat about her career, her sleep routine and her bedroom décor. Keep scrolling to tour her London bedroom and find out more.

How does your bedroom reflect your personality?

My bedroom is an oasis for me as since I work from home, it's the only room that I can completely switch off. I wanted to make a warm, cosy feel (for the winter nights!) but still have lots of light for lazy weekend mornings. It reflects my personality in its warm colours and relaxed vibe.

How do you go about styling your space? Where are your favourite pieces from and how do you choose what you like in the space?

My favourite piece has to be my vintage Murano glass lamp! It makes me so happy just to look at it—I love mixing modern pieces alongside vintage finds. The chest of drawers it sits on is also vintage and I loved the dark wooden tone to it so bought a new bed to match. I've been loving sleeping in my Bed Threads as the colours fits perfectly and they feel so luxurious.

What does having a comfortable and inviting bedroom mean to you?

It means it can be a place of calm and relaxation—somewhere I can totally switch off from work and begin some real me time.

When did your passion for beauty begin and what does it mean to you?

I've always been interested in all kinds of beauty in the world I see—which is what first drew me to photography. I love learning and my interest in skincare came from having acne and trying to figure it all out for myself, so I decided to share that journey and what I had learned alongside my photography. Beauty is in everything, you just have to see it.

What does your regular sleep routine look like?

The first thing is to change out of my clothes—once I'm in a robe I immediately feel more relaxed and ready for bed. Once I've then done my skincare routine, I read. I'm a bookworm so I always make a cup of mint tea before bed to enjoy while I read. I find reading also helps calm my mind and get me into sleep mode.
