15 Movies You Should Definitely Binge-Watch With Your Best Friend

We love going to the cinemas with pals – a big bucket of popcorn to share, and the chance to laugh or cry over a glass of wine at the pub post-movie. But is there anything better than a movie night at home with your bestie?

You get to pick the film, you get to buy the snacks and the refreshments, you get to wear whatever you want to loaf about on the sofa and you can talk, heckle and laugh as much as you want. There’s no need to silence your phone or keep your whispering to a minimum, like you would at the cinema. If you’re having an at-home movie night, you can be as loud as you want. Shout at your television! Make dirty jokes! Cheer as much as you want!

So, from classics to modern day friendships, here are the best movies to help you and your BFF have the best night-in.

15 movies to watch with your best friend

1. The First Wives Club

An oldie but a goodie, this 1996 rom-com follows the adventures of three women dumped by their respective husbands for younger models (including a very young Sarah Jessica Parker), who team up to seek revenge against them.

The film ends with the three lead characters (Diana Keaton, Goldie Hawn and Bette Midler) doing a memorable song-and-dance number that’ll have you and your BFF up on your feet following along. It’s mandatory viewing for anyone, but especially perfect if your bestie is heartbroken from a break-up because it just goes to show you really don’t need a man in your life to have fun.

2. Thelma and Louise

Thelma and Louise are the ultimate female dynamic duo who embrace the meaning of true friendship. The two would do anything for each other as they both fight for their bond and freedom. If you haven’t watched this iconic film, it’s about ditzy housewife Thelma and uptight waitress Louise, who let loose from their lives by embarking on a girl’s trip one weekend. Unfortunately, the trip goes south and they encounter obstacles that change their lives forever. What they realise is that they always have each other’s backs, no matter what.

3. To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before

There are three in this series now, so you know what that means: movie marathon! The To All The Boys trilogy is a lovely, big-hearted teen romantic comedy, about Lara Jean Covey (Lana Condor) and Peter Kavinsky (Noah Centineo), who start off in a fake relationship that grows into something more. It’s adorable and very, very sweet, but these are also well-written and directed films. Perfect Sunday Funday viewing over a pizza with your best friend.

4. Pitch Perfect

Pitch Perfect and its sequels, is more than just a group of girls singing acapella. It highlights the importance of friendship and teamwork as the girl gang face hurdles in all aspects of their lives. You’ll find yourself belting out banging tunes mid-film, too.

5. Bride Wars

All relationships go through rough patches, even the most inseparable best friends. Bride Wars tells the story of two childhood friends (Anne Hathaway and Kate Hudson), who have grown up making plans for their perfect respective weddings, but turn into sworn enemies when the time comes. The race to destroy each other’s weddings results in some truly nasty bridezilla revenge acts. Thankfully (after destroying each other’s weddings), they come to realise friendship comes before anything - even marriage.

6. Wild Child

But after weeks of disrespectful acts, Poppy eventually drops her guard and becomes friends with her three other roommates. She soon realises her new friends are more loyal and loving than the “fake” friends she had in Malibu who were purely using her for her money and status.

7. Wine Country

Amy Poehler. Maya Rudolph. Tina Fey. Wine. What more do you need to know? This film, which marked Poehler’s directorial debut, is a hilarious riff on those girls’ weekends away, when it all seems to descend into chaos. Packed with jokes and full of insight into female friendship, especially the relationships you have with people over decades and decades of your life, it’s a must-watch for a girls’ night.

8. Angus Thongs and Perfect Snogging

Between Georgia (Georgia Groome) shaving off her eyebrow and Robbie (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) making your heart skip a beat, this cheesy rom-com will have you transported back to the good ol’ high school days. For those who have missed out on this film, it’s about a loveable teenage girl trying to navigate through the ups and downs of growing up, with the help of her three best friends.

Where to watch it: Netflix

9. Blackpink: Light Up The Sky

This documentary, about Kpop supergroup Blackpink, is fantastic watching with your bestie. Why? Because at its heart it’s about the relationships between Lisa, Rose, Jennie and Jisoo - the four members of the world’s most popular girl band. Their friendship is at the core of Blackpink - plus, watching the world of superfame all while trying to stay true to themselves and each other, makes for a great documentary.

11. Sex and the City: The Movie

This list wouldn't be complete without Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte. Fashion, sex and strong women is what has made Sex and the City one of the most iconic shows to date. 12. Always Be My Maybe

Comedians Ali Wong and Randall Park play childhood friends who had an awkward fling when they were teenagers. But while they may have had many similarities growing up, she's now a high-profile chef, and he's living with his dad and plays in a band (local gigs only).

Along the way they realise that even though their career paths couldn’t be more different, they’re inherently the same two besties who couldn’t go a day without seeing each other.

Side note: Keanu Reeves appears as himself in a performance that will somehow make you love him more.

13. Someone Great

Released in 2019, Someone Great has been a bit of a Netflix sleeper hit. It’s a smart, sexy romantic comedy, with an incredible cast (Gina Rodriguez! LaKeith Stanfield! Brittany Snow! DeWanda Wise!) and a soundtrack of hits, including Lizzo’s Truth Hurts.

So why did it slip through the net? If you haven’t seen it, or missed it when it was first released, now is the time to revisit it. Not only because all those late-night clubbing scenes in New York will make you dream of the time when we can travel again, but because this film is secretly a romantic comedy about female friendship, and the women who are the real loves of your life. What could be better BFF viewing than that?

14. The Hangover

What’s better than watching a film about Doug and his three best friends, who go to Las Vegas to celebrate his bachelor party only to wake up the next day with the worst hangover and realise Doug is missing?

Plus, you’ll literally catch Zach Galifinakis singing “We’re the three best friends that anyone could have”, so you know you have to join in on the friendship party with your bestie - or besties. It's a crude comedy that manages to be smart and overwhelmingly funny at the same time.

15. Toy Story

Not all best friends start out being friends. In fact, how many of you were actually intimidated by your other-half? That’s the tale Toy Story tells, teaching you that sometimes, you have to overcome your differences to learn what you really have in common with each other. You’ll finish the film (and its sequels) full of nostalgia about your childhood, too.
