These Are the Artists We're Following on Instagram Right Now

If you’re looking for inspiration, there’s no place quite like an art gallery. And, while we don’t frequent actual bricks and mortar galleries as much as we’d like, Instagram has stepped in as an arty alternative. Within those little squares on your newsfeed lie all the art inspiration you need to get your creativity flowing. Case in point? These seven incredible artists we’re following... and you should, too.

@carolinewallsart

When Melbourne-based artist Caroline Walls’ artwork pops up in your Instagram feed you can expect to feel a wave of mellow calm wash over you. The artist focuses on the female form and with fluid lines and a simple, monochrome, neutral palette, manages to create masterpieces we'd like hanging on our bedroom walls. A passionate creative from way back, Caroline worked as an art director and designer for luxury lifestyle brands before making art her full-time gig. Want a piece? Her last two exhibitions sold out, so get in quick for this year’s instalment.

@aaronkinnane

Australian painter and sculptor Aaron Kinnane manages to expertly capture the natural world in a series of colourful brush strokes. From stormy, moody seas to the countryside at first light, Aaron’s paintings are like a slow, relaxing deep breath in and out for your eyes. The painter lists changes in colour, movement and light and the natural environment as his biggest inspiration.

@kitagar

Kit Agar’s work has us dreaming of clean, geometric lines and earthy colours. The London-based artist’s prints and paintings focus on the female form, faces, shapes, household objects and food. The best part? Kit’s quirky work would look right at home hanging in your bedroom and it doesn’t cost the world. Prints range from $36 to $72 and you can buy them here.

@den_holm

Melbourne-based stonemason, sculptor and artist Steven John Clark is the man behind Den Holm, the Instagram account that tempts us to hand over our credit card details daily. A mix of art and function, many of Clark’s strong stone pieces not only look arresting but double as furniture, too. From hand-carved Australian limestone vases to bold, twisted stone sculptures that’d look right at home in a sunlit bedroom, follow Den Holm for a regular hit of simple, impeccably sculpted inspiration.

@fredericforest

After taking in French artist Frédéric Forest’s work, we promise you’ll be itching to put pencil to paper to sketch your own creations. The drawings of the Paris-based interior and art director turned artist are so simple — a few lines here, a little shading there — yet they somehow convey the beauty of the physical form in great detail. You can purchase pieces from his website, and the paper used is recycled, biodegradable and is certified without acid, elemental chlorine or heavy metal, so it’s looking out for the environment, too.

@vickileelee

Australian lawyer-turned-artist Vicki Lee has become an Instagram favourite thanks to her abstract paintings of whimsical, romantic florals. So why the fixation on fleurs? On her first date with her boyfriend, photographer Ted O’Donnell, they had a sunset picnic then drenched Gymea flowers in tahini, honey and a flour and water mixture and took amazing photos. The rest is history, friends.
