How to Decorate Your Bedroom According to Your Personality Type

When it comes to the home, our bedrooms might just be the purest representation of who we are and what we care about, so it’s only natural yours should be a representation of your personality.

But over the past 12 months, we’ve spent more time than ever at home, while many of us have also experienced a shift in the things that make us who we are (or had a crisis of personality entirely!). So naturally, there’s no better time to reconnect to ourselves by crafting our space that reflects us accordingly. Here are four ways to do just that.

How to Decorate Your Bedroom According to Your Personality Type

1. If you’re a staunch environmentalist...

The argument goes that we should all be environmentalists, but if that label resonates with you, there’s a good chance that being surrounded by nature is where you feel most yourself. To channel that calming and connecting energy in the home, surround yourself with natural textures and materials: think floorboards, jute rugs, wood furniture, canvas fabrics, soft throws and plenty of plants.

When it comes to bedding, look to off-whites (pure white might be too harsh for your palette), pale and deep greens (try Sage or Olive), plus blues and turquoise (Drift, Mineral and Petrol will feel ocean-like).

2. If you’ve got a sunny disposition...

If you’re a glass-half-full type, an abode that matches your bright personality will keep you feeling like your true optimistic self - even when your mood wanes (because let’s face it, that’s especially likely of late). Fill your place with art and furnishings that err on uplifting rather than minimal - think colour, texture and playful shapes.

When it comes to bedding, warm, sunny colours such as Turmeric, Pink Clay, Rust and Terracotta will keep you feeling spritely. A brightly coloured vase will be the perfect home for a weekly flower top-up - shop local or handmade for an extra dose of good juju.

3. If you like things just-so...

If, despite your best intentions, you’re a stickler for routine and order, keeping your space streamlined is a sure way to have you feeling together. Keeping clutter and decor at a minimum will help you feel most aligned to your natural proclivities, so if your place is lacking in-built storage, invest in furniture that has plenty of space to hide things away (whether that be with a clever bed base, chic sideboard or even a freestanding cupboard).

When it comes to art, look for large-scale pieces that are awash with only a couple of tonal hues, and keep furniture in a light or white-washed tone. Large-scale rugs can help here - and a light-toned rug such as an off-white jute will keep things feeling light and fresh. White, Oatmeal or the subtle Stripe will be perfect for you and your minimal space.

4. If you’re hyper creative...

We’re not going to tell you which hues to go for because you likely have a pretty strong idea already, but there’s a chance you’ll want your bedding to be interchangeable, depending on the hue you’re feeling at any given time. As such, invest in European pillows (and perhaps an extra set of standard pillows, too), so that you can mix and match multiple colours in your bedding.

Keep things tonal with, say Pink Clay and Lavender or the blue-hued Petrol and Mineral, or clash them entirely: blues and greens with pinks and purples. The possibilities are endless.
