The Must-Have Bedhead Style Making Waves in 2022

While we may spend most of our time sleeping in the bedroom, it's worthwhile making it a beautiful and comfortable space to relax in as well. When it comes to decorating our bedrooms, our beds are the main point of focus. They take up majority of the space and are the primary furniture piece. Dressing them up with beautiful linen and cushions is an obvious go-to, but adding a chic bedhead will also do wonders.

Having a bedhead definitely isn't a must in a bedroom, but if you’re looking to maximise your boudoir's design appeal and make it look more put together, opting for either a bedhead or frame is the way to go. A bedhead is also a great option for small rooms when you don't have the space to have a full bed frame in place.

If you're wanting to stay stylish and on trend, ditching harsh angles might just be the way to go.

What style of bedhead is trending?

You've probably noticed how the curved interior design trend has taken off in the last couple of years. Design enthusiasts have been embracing curvilinear forms in everything from chubby sofas to wavy mirrors, and shapely bedhead designs. And this aesthetic has continued to make big waves in 2022.

Many of us are ditching trends to favour timeless choices, but the preference for more curvaceous design isn't a trend that will be fleeting. There are a few reasons why softer edges just look so good and are highly popular in design choices. According to a 2007 study that examined the emotional effect of curvilinear forms in interior design, rounded shapes in internal spaces are perceived to be less stressful than angular shapes. Another study conducted in 2012  found that interior settings and furniture with rounded contours promote higher levels of relaxation compared to angular contours.

This is perfect for your bedroom which should be a relaxing retreat to wake up to and end your day in. Whether it's timber, upholstered, or metal, beheads with organic shapes like arches and waves are where it's at in 2022.

Who is embracing the trend?

Scrolling through interior design accounts on Instagram and Pinterest, or opening any luxury home magazine like Elle Decor will reveal a bevy of bedrooms embracing the curved bedhead trend. A beautiful boucle design sits in the main bedroom of Josh and Jenna Densten's family home which we toured in our The Makers series.

Interior designers who don't utilise curved beheads are few and far between with Three Birds Renovations, Nate Berkus, and Tamsin Johnson just a handful of aficionados embracing the look. Bespoke bed and bedhead designer Heatherly Designs has produced a range of luxurious designs that have sat within countless homes and are much-adored by the Australian design world.
