The Queens Gambit and 12 Other Shows To Watch Right Now

If you’ve been patiently waiting for a new binge-worthy show to add to your watch list, November is the month. With a plethora of must-watch and highly anticipated new releases on the small screen dropping, the only issue you’ll face is deciding what to watch next.

From the arrival of Princess Diana in season four of acclaimed series, The Crown, to the highly anticipated newcomer, The Queen's Gambit and must-watch psychological thriller, The Undoing, here’s all of the new TV shows we’re looking forward to this month.

The Queens Gambit

When can I watch it? Now on Netflix

Dropping in late October, the much talked about drama mini-series The Queen's Gambit, follows orphan, Beth Harmon, as she navigates sexism, addiction and isolation as a chess prodigy during the Cold War era. With its captivating characters, iconic beauty and fashion references and vivid cinematics, even if chess isn’t usually a topic that would pique your interest, this story of female empowerment is one to watch.

The Undoing

When can I watch it? Now on Binge

If you’ve been longing for a Hugh Grant and Nicole Kidman pairing on your small screen get ready to breathe a sigh of relief. Based on The New York Times bestselling novel, You Should Have Known, The Undoing is a highly anticipated psychological thriller set in New York City, following Grace (Kidman), a successful therapist, and her husband Jonathan (Grant) as their idyllic lives suddenly spiral out of control. After a violent death, a missing spouse and a chain of terrible revelations, Grace must dismantle the world that she once knew in the wake of a spreading and very public disaster and create a new life for the sake of her child and family.

Below Deck Season 8

When can I watch it? 3 November on Binge

It's the upstairs-downstairs reality show that has fans all around the globe, who tune in to watch the drama unfold on the deck of superyachts where the rich go to unwind, and the beautiful go to make life as easy as possible for them. Now that the show is entering its eighth season, you know the drill: staff members are likely to have beef between them, and all is never going to be smooth sailing when it comes to super yachts. And it's precisely this melodrama and high energy that has us bingeing new episodes as soon as they drop.

Gangs of London

When can I watch it? 6 November on Stan

Fans of Peaky Blinders or Luther will find a lot to love in Gangs of London, a dark and gritty crime thriller set on the streets of London. What happens when one of the city's most powerful criminals, and a man who controls most of the crime in the city, is assassinated? Who will step into the power vacuum that he leaves behind? And what will happen to the people vying to take control of the underbelly of the city? Anchored by gripping performances and full of twists and turns, each episode of Gangs of London will leave you wanting more.

Betty

When can I watch it? 6 November on Binge

The lives of badass female skateboarders in New York are put under the spotlight in Betty, a six episode HBO miniseries streaming this month on Binge. Loosely based on Skate Kitchen, a film about female skateboarders released in 2018, this show is fun, funky and seriously, seriously cool. Watching these characters conquer the male-dominated world of skateboarding is enough to make you think about picking up a board for yourself.

Moonbase 8

When can I watch it? 8 November on Stan

Love space shows? Moonbase 8 is for you. This space comedy follows three would-be astronauts as they discover that they are not cut out for the great wide world of space travel at all. It stars veteran comedians Fred Armison of Portlandia fame, Tim Heidecker and John C Reilly (Chicago, Step Brothers, the list goes on) and it's a laugh a minute.

Dash and Lily

When can I watch it? 10 November on Netflix

Sure, it's only November, but the Christmas content is well and truly underway. Take this, for example, a lovely young adult Netflix romantic comedy series about an opposites attract pairing: Dash, who doesn't care about the silly season, and Lily, who sees it all through rose-tinted glasses. The pair swap messages across the city as they grow closer and closer, while also realising the true meaning of Christmas.

Becoming You

When can I watch it? 13 November on AppleTV+

It's a double whammy for Olivia Colman this month. Not only does the Oscar winner have the new season of The Crown (more on that next) but she also narrates Becoming You, an AppleTV+ documentary about childhood. Following 100 kids from around the world in countries such as Nepal and Japan, it gives an insight into what happens in the life of a child from birth to turning five. Life-affirming and full of joy, it's an uplifting docuseries for the whole family to watch.

The Crown Season 4

When can I watch it? 15 November on Netflix

This is the last bow for Olivia Colman and Helena Bonham Carter's iteration of this series, which sees a new set of actors and actresses take on the role of key royal family members over time. Season three, which was their first outing, saw the Queen dealing with the rising prominence of her children, including Prince Charles, while Princess Margaret's marriage fell spectacularly to pieces towards the end of the season. What will season four examine? Well, there'll be much more of the Queen's relationship with her Prime Ministers, in particular the UK's first female PM Margaret Thatcher (played exquisitely well by an unrecognisable Gillian Anderson). As for Prince Charles (Josh O'Connor)? He's got a lot on his plate, namely the arrival of his blushing bride Princess Diana (Emma Corrin). This is going to be the television event of the month. Mark your calendars now.

His Dark Materials Season 2

When can I watch it? 17 November on Binge

The first season of His Dark Materials, lavishly co-produced by the BBC and HBO and starring James McAvoy, Lin Manuel Miranda and Ruth Wilson, followed the first book in Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy. This season will zero in on The Subtle Knife, the second book and one that sees the action pivot to focussing on Will, the young man in England who discovers a rip in the universe that allows him to travel through to a parallel London. This means that the show will introduce a bunch of new characters for the first time, including Andrew Scott—aka Hot Priest from Fleabag—who is playing Colonel John Parry, Will's missing father. And his daemon animal? Voiced by none other than his Fleabag co-star Phoebe Waller-Bridge.

Saved by the Bell

When can I watch it? 26 November on Stan

Hands up who watched Saved by the Bell religiously as a teenager? This reboot features two of the original cast members—Mario Lopez and Elizabeth Berkley Lauren, reprising their roles of AC Slater and Jessie Spano—as well as a whole new set of kids just trying to make it through high school. When the California Governor decides that children from underfunded schools should be reassigned to some of the best facilities in the state, including Bayside High, he kicks off a chain of events that changes everyone's lives forever. Consider us well and truly locked in for this big dose of nostalgia.

The Flight Attendant

When can I watch it? 27 November on Binge

Kaley Cuoco, star of The Big Bang Theory, leads this twisted thriller from the producers of You. She plays a flight attendant who has a night of steamy passion with a business class passenger, only to wake up and find him brutally murdered the next morning. Did she do it? And if she didn't do it... Who did? With the same terrifying dark comedy as You, and with Cuoco's magnetic performance at its core, The Flight Attendant is supremely watchable television. Susanna Fogel, who co-wrote Booksmart, serves as executive producer and directed the show's pilot episodes.
