Bed Threads’ CRM Specialist on Avoiding Burnout and Staying Organised

To-do lists and YouTube dance workouts keep Nikita Ganatra on top of her busy day.

If you've signed up to our mailing list, you'll be familiar with the vibrant content we send out on a weekly basis. Whether it's articles straight from the Journal or keeping you updated with our latest sale, our newsletters serve to share helpful information and connect with our wonderful audience. Making sure they are of the highest quality is central to the Bed Threads brand and the person on our team who manages all of this is Nikita – our super-friendly and hard-working CRM specialist.

In this fast-paced role, Nikita is constantly looking for ways to better understand our customers' needs and desires. She has strong analytical, interpersonal, and leadership skills which she needs to effectively produce, test, and send out relevant and timely content both via emails and SMS.

It's not an easy job, and it's one that requires her to be organised and flexible with her time. Below, we're sharing how Nikita finds work-life balance and her advice for others wanting to get into the fascinating CRM world.

Hi Nikita! Welcome to the Bed Threads Team Morning Routine Series! Can you tell us a little bit about what you do at Bed Threads?

I’m the CRM Specialist at Bed Threads – yes it’s me who’s been sending you The Bed Threads Emails & SMS’ (hope you’re loving them!)

What time do you typically wake up? Can you walk us through your morning routine?

I usually wake up between 7 am- 8 am and will either go to a Pilates class or try to do something creative in the morning. I just bought some flower pots from Bunnings, so I’ve been spending the mornings checking in on them and watering them (it also allows me to have some time out in the sun before work + screen time). My role at Bed Threads can get quite technical, so I find this balance is good for me and gets my mindset right for the day ahead.

What are some essentials that you can’t start your day without?

Doing some sort of exercise – I like getting it out of the way before the day slips away.

What do you typically eat for breakfast to kickstart your day?

On the weekends I do enjoy a good brunch with friends – either at a cafe or cooking up a storm with friends at home. On weekdays, I usually eat eggs with corn tortillas or overnight oats, accompanied by a cup of coffee or tea. I like to sneak some turmeric, cinnamon, and black pepper into my tea, as I find this energises me and helps me when I’m run down or feel like I’m getting sick.

Is there anything aside from coffee that helps when you feel too tired to function?

When I’m too tired to function I find going for a walk and getting fresh air helps! If the weather is bad, sometimes you may find me doing a YouTube dance workout to wake me up.

How do you prioritise your tasks and organise your morning to ensure a productive start?

I usually write a to-do list the night before so I can get straight into the tasks of the day.

Do you have any specific strategies to help you stay focused and motivated throughout the workday?

Writing a to-do list the night before, listening to upbeat music and/or putting my phone on 'Do Not Disturb' helps me to stay focused and motivated when I’m really busy.

Which Bed Threads colourways do you currently have on your bed?

Rust & Terracotta Bedding Bundle.

What advice would you give to someone looking to get into this line of work?

For anyone looking to get into a CRM Specialist role, I found brushing up on my HTML/CSS skills very handy for when building the emails at Bed Threads. Subscribing to other brands and email/SMS tools (i.e. Klaviyo, Litmus, Validity, Postscript) also helps to stay on top of ever-changing email/SMS tips, trends, and laws.

The nature of a CRM role can be quite fast-paced and things can change at any moment. As someone who tends to get burnt out, I’ve learnt to be flexible with my time and save my energy for the days when I may need to work longer than usual.

As someone who can also be a perfectionist, I found this quote helpful: “Striving for perfection is good, obsessing over perfection is bad”– especially with the nature of emails forever changing, things may not always go as planned.

Always prioritise (I’ve learnt it’s okay to say no and come back to less urgent things later), take everything as a learning, and lastly, don’t be hard on yourself. Make sure you have fun!
