3 Unforgettable Table Setting Ideas for Christmas Dinner

If you’re like the rest of us and you're looking for a few new pieces to up your tablescaping game, it's a great time to do it. Retailers are really bringing the goods when it comes to tableware, from shapely candlesticks, patterned dinnerware, coloured glassware and linens, we are spoilt for choice! But, don’t be discouraged by thinking you need a large budget to bring a beautiful table setting together - a lot of the current trends can be recreated using pieces found around the home and garden.

Below, we spoke to stylist, Corina Koch, to get the low down on her three favourite table setting trends for the festive season ahead, and the wallet-friendly tricks she uses to bring them to life.

1. Wild and whimsical

Wild and whimsical tablescaping is for the modest romantics. It's a personal favourite of mine as it doesn't shout 'trend' and is understatedly sophisticated. Think wild grasses and dainty garden flowers loosely arranged in several small shapely vases. This look is best paired with white or oatmeal linens and finished with brass candlesticks and simple white tapered dinner candles for the ultimate poised tablescape.

2. Mediterranean inspired

Mediterranean influencer is prominent in interiors lately. Mixing and matching bold napery like rust and turmeric with dinnerware and crisp whites and ultramarine blues. Jugs filled with citrus branches can be used in place of flowers. Loose lemons, bunches of herbs and vine ripened tomatoes are great styled directly onto the table, or placed in groups around the base of a vase (don't forget to save these to be eaten at a later date!).

3. Sustainability focused

Whilst sustainable living should be more of a lifestyle than a trend, more and more people are conscious of how we can implement it in our everyday lives. To create a more sustainable tablescape, invest in one linen tablecloth that can be washed and refused, then visit local vintage stores for vases, glassware, platters or cutlery. Forage around your backyard or neighbourhood for flowers or a nice green branch that can be used as a centrepiece - these can be dried out and used again. You can also repurpose your old wine bottles or veggie cans as charming little vases or candle holders.
