8 New Shows We Can’t Wait to Watch in August

From the third season of ‘Only Murders in the Building’ to a new ‘Star Wars’ series.

A new month always brings good things, from a change in the weather to a new suite of television for us to watch… and August is no different. In fact, when it comes to streaming, August might be one of the most exciting months of the year so far.

Here are eight new shows we’ll be watching this month.

1. Physical

Where can I watch it? On AppleTV+

The third and final season of Physical, AppleTV+’s dark comedy starring Rose Byrne, will stream this month. This pitch perfect series has a devoted fan base for a reason: its biting tone and darkly sardonic wit, its perfect recreation of ‘80s fitness culture and, of course, its lead performance by the fantastic Byrne. In the final season, Body by Sheila, the business Byrne’s character Sheila has so painstakingly built, is threatened by a new fitness entrepreneur. What will happen? You’ll have to tune in to find out.

2. Heartstopper

Where can I watch it? On Netflix

The show we all fell in love with when it first premiered last year – the heartwarming, sweet, and totally lovely queer teen romance Heartstopper – returns for a second season on Netflix. This time, Nick and Charlie are in a relationship, there’s a school trip to Paris (and their end of year formal!) and all the usual high school drama to navigate. We still cherish the first season of this show and can’t wait to watch this much anticipated second season.

3. The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart

Where can I watch it? On Prime Video

We’re excited for The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart, a cinematic and transporting miniseries on Prime Video. This Australian production is based on the beloved Holly Ringland novel of the same name, which follows a young girl, Alice, who escapes a horrific family situation to live with her grandmother on a flower farm, discovering more about her life and family history in the process. The cast for this powerful series is incredible: Alycia Debnam-Carey stars as Alice, with Sigourney Weaver as her grandmother June. Plus, there’s Asher Keddie, Leah Purcell and Tilda Cobham-Hervey, just to name a few. With stunning visuals and a propulsive, moving story, this show is a must-watch.

4. Reservation Dogs

Where can I watch it? On Binge

Another show that we loved is coming to an end this month. Reservation Dogs, the Taika Waititi-produced series about a group of Native American teens who are desperately trying to get off their reservation and into California – by any means necessary – will stream its final season this month. We love the cast of this series, including stars K Devery Jacobs and Paulina Alexis, and we love the show’s cheeky and irreverent humour. It’s been a pleasure following these kids for two seasons now and we will be watching for their third and final outing.

5. Winning Time

Where can I watch it? On Binge

Did you watch the first season of Winning Time? The HBO show with an incredible cast – from John C Reilly to Adrien Brody to Jason Segel to Sally Field – chronicled the rise of the Los Angeles Lakers and the ‘70s era of basketball that turned the team into a powerhouse. The series returns for a second season this month, following the Lakers on a high after their championship win over the Boston Celtics.

6. Only Murders In The Building

Where can I watch it? On Disney+

Praise the lord! Only Murders in the Building is back. The third season of one of our favourite watches will return this month – and just look at the additions to the cast. Alongside Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez will be Meryl Streep (!) and Paul Rudd (!), helping or hindering to solve the next case that falls into the laps of everyone’s favourite murder podcasters. This season feels bigger, as the trio leave their beloved apartment building for nearby Broadway as Oliver puts on a play that will all end in… murder. We can’t wait.

7.  Men In Kilts

Where can I watch it? On Binge

Outlander fans will love Men In Kilts, a very enjoyable docu-series that follows stars Sam Heughan and Graham McTavish as they traverse Scotland and tell stories. Season two of this show transplants the action to New Zealand, which is where McTavish is usually based (with his now wife, the fashion blogger Garance Dore). If you ever wanted to see Outlander’s finest making their way across the beautiful North and South islands and doing all sorts of hair-raising things, including swimming with sharks, this is the show for you.
