6 Timothée Chalamet Films to Watch While Waiting for Wonka
From an emotional drama with Steve Carell to a science fiction saga with Zendaya.
Chalamania is back this week with the arrival of the trailer for Wonka, starring it-boy Timothée Chalamet as the candy tycoon himself.
The blockbuster hit is set to hit cinemas at the end of 2023, so while we wait eagerly in anticipation, here are six movies starring Timmy you can watch in the meantime.
1. Beautiful Boy
Where can I watch it? On Prime Video
If you aren’t in the mood to cry, we recommend skipping this one. Starring Steve Carrel and Timothée Chalamet, this heart wrenching drama follows a father who’s coming to terms with his son's addiction to methamphetamine. Truly moving and deeply emotional, make sure you have a box of tissues by your side while watching.
2. Call Me By Your Name
Where can I watch it? On Stan
‘Call Me By Your Name’ is based off the 2007 coming-of-age novel by American writer André Aciman. Chalamet stars alongside Armie Hammer in this mesmerising film directed by Luca Guadagnino. Set in the 1980s in Northern Italy, 'Call Me By Your Name' tells the story of a blossoming relationship between two young men who meet each other over the summer.
3. Dune
Where can I watch it? On Netflix
'Dune', the 1965 epic science fiction novel by American author Frank Herbert, was originally adapted for the screen in 1984, and Chalamet stars alongside Zendaya in the 2021 rendition, directed by Denis Villeneuve. Set in year 10191, the story follows Paul Atreides, a brilliant and gifted young man whose family has been forced to take stewardship of the dangerous and inhospitable planet of Arrakis, where war is brewing. It's a complex plot (you might need an explainer after you watch it!) but the performances, cinematography and production design are outstanding.
4. Lady Bird
Where can I watch it? On Binge
A poignant coming of age story, ‘Lady Bird’ stars Saoirse Ronan as the protagonist, Christine 'Lady Bird', who is desperately trying to find out who she is and who she wants to be. Timothée Chalamet stars as Kyle Scheible, the broody and mysterious bass player with whom Lady Bird has a brief and disappointing romantic encounter.
5. The King
Where can I watch it? On Netflix
Timothée Chalamet stars as Young Henry V in this historical drama. Set in England during the 15th Century, Young Henry V encounters war, deceit, and treachery, after taking the throne following his brother’s death.
6. Hot Summer Nights
Where can I watch it? On Apple TV
Set in 1991, teenager Daniel (played by Chalamet), moves to Cape Cod for the summer to spend time with his aunt before going to college. Struggling to fit in, Daniel begins to sell drugs to vacationers, but gets in over his head after falling for his business partner’s sister. This American neo-noir coming-of-age crime drama film is a must watch if you haven’t gotten around to it yet.
