10 New TV Shows To Keep You Entertained This September

From the 'Off Campus'-esque high school rowing drama 'Crew Girl' to the Jon Hamm-led thriller 'American Hostage' and even a 'Snowfall' spinoff, this month of TV is full of surprises.

Seasons may be changing, but one thing remains constant, and that’s good television.

This September, Jon Hamm fans can relish in eight eps of the psychological thriller American Hostage, based on the true story of a harrowing hostage crisis. Meanwhile, see Colin From Accounts star Patrick Brammall as you’ve never seen him before in the Australian crime mystery Last Seen, while Dutch drama The Perfect Lie delivers twelve episodes of tantalising secret-spilling.

Mix in the returning seasons of Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen and time-traversing prequel Outlander: Blood of My Blood alongside Snowfall spinoff The Drop, and you’ll find yourself spending most of this month on the edge of your seat.

1. American Horror Story Season 13

Where Can I Watch It? On Disney+

The source of our nightmares for the last 15 years is finally cutting off its spook supply, but not without an all-star send-off, quite literally. For the 13th and final season of American Horror Story, many of the monsters from seasons’ past will make a reappearance – including Jessica Lange as Constance Langdon, Evan Peters as both Kai Anderson and Rubber Man, Sarah Paulson as Coven's Cordelia Goode, Angela Bassett as Marie Laveau and Emma Roberts as Madison Montgomery. Big yikes.

2. American Hostage

Where Can I Watch It? On Stan

From advertising guru to neighbourhood thief, Jon Hamm has lived many lives on screen. His latest is that of Fred Heckman, a beloved Indianapolis radio reporter who became international news in 1977. Over eight episodes, American Hostage tells the harrowing true story of a three-day crisis engineered by Tony Kiritsis (played by Giovanni Ribisi), who took a bank employee hostage and demanded Heckman interview him live on his popular radio show – all while his hostage had a shotgun wired to his neck.

3. Crew Girl

Where Can I Watch It? On Netflix

A steamy high school saga starring Miku Martineau, Crew Girl (or as we like to call it, Off Campus: Rowing Edition) follows Teagan Tao, a talented rower who discovers there’s no women’s program at her new elite East Coast prep school. Instead of taking no for an answer (because, ew), she becomes the only girl on the all-boys rowing team. Rivalry and romance collide over eight episodes of this YA drama, which also stars Sam Braun, Kyle Clark, and Jessica Paré.

4. The Drop: A Snowfall Saga

Where Can I Watch It? On Disney+

It’s been over three years since the Snowfall series finale, and now we finally have a spinoff. Set in Los Angeles in the early 90s, The Drop finds Snowfall characters Wanda Bell (Gail Bean) and Leon Simmons (Isaiah John) eager to reinvent themselves after the crack epidemic of the 80s. Wanda sets her sights on the music industry, as West Coast rap begins to rise and take over the streets. But it’s not all beats and bars, with rival gangs, street politics, and predatory record labels all standing in her way of success.

5. The Gentlemen Season 2

Where Can I Watch It? On Netflix

While he mightn’t be getting high off his own supply, Eddie Horniman is still guilty of not knowing when to quit. In the second season of this dark comedy series adaptation of Guy Ritchie’s iconic film, we pick up one year on to discover Horniman (played by Theo James) has decided to go all in on the drug biz since working with Susie in Bobby’s criminal international empire. Only problem is, Bobby’s decision-making seems to be getting more questionable by the minute.

6. Last Seen

Where Can I Watch It? On Apple TV

We know (and love) him as Gordon in Colin From Accounts, but prepare to see a very different side to Patrick Brammall in this six-part Australian thriller series. Adapted from Ryan David Jahn’s novel The Dispatcher and set and filmed entirely in Victoria, Last Seen finds police detective Ian Ridley 11 years after his young daughter disappeared. While working as a police dispatcher, he takes a call from a teenager in distress who he’s convinced is his daughter, stopping at nothing to find her.

7. Neagley

Where Can I Watch It? On Prime Video

Jack Reacher introduced us to Frances Neagley, and audiences couldn’t get enough. Now the former military protégé-turned-private-investigator has her own show, serving up just as much high-octane action as her counterpart. Over eight thrilling eps, Neagley (played by Danish actress, writer, director and former beauty pageant winner Maria Sten) employs the lessons she learned from Jack to get justice for a friend from her past who died under suspicious circumstances.

8. Outlander: Blood of My Blood Season 2

Where Can I Watch It? On Stan

The story of Jamie and Claire’s parents continues in season two of Outlander’s prequel series, after season one’s finale left us with more questions than answers. Jamie’s parents, Ellen MacKenzie (played by Harriet Slater) and Brian Fraser (Jamie Roy), face battle, while Claire’s folks, Julia Moriston (Hermione Corfield) and Henry Beauchamp (Jeremy Irvine), face time-travel separation after Henry gave up his ticket to the 1920s. Most of us know how the story ends, but it’s the journey, not the destination, that counts!

9. The Perfect Lie

Where Can I Watch It? On Netflix

Dubbed 'The Dutch Big Little Lies', this tantalising drama is based on the bestselling novel The Dinner Club by Saskia Noort. The 12-episode series follows Karen and her family, who move to a luxe neighbourhood in Bergen, Norway, joining its exclusive dinner club. Things couldn’t be better until everything goes up in flames – literally. A fatal fire turns once white picket fences to dust, as Karen sifts through the ashes in search of the truth.

10. Slow Horses Season 6

Where Can I Watch It? On Apple TV

These days it’s rare for a series to reach three seasons, and yet Slow Horses has doubled that number with no end in sight. Season seven has already been greenlit, and with author Mick Herron’s Slough House series (which the show is based on) boasting nine books, there looks to be plenty more MI5 spy stories to be told. Season six adapts Herron’s sixth novel, Joe Country, as Oscar-winning star Gary Oldman leads his motley crew of agents on another mysterious mission.
