How to Feel Productive This Long Weekend (Without Overdoing It)
Sometimes a few small, thoughtful resets are all it takes.
Don’t get us wrong – we love a long weekend. There’s nothing better than when the calendar presents an extra day of R&R (and even more satisfying when it seems to sneak up on you). But that bonus day can often bring with it a creeping sense that you should be doing… more? Wasted time feels like the cardinal sin of the twenty-twenties, and we’re always looking for ways to optimise our precious free moments away from work or obligation: sorting your life out, getting ahead, finally tackling everything you’ve been putting off.
It always starts with good intentions – a list drafted in optimism on a Thursday with vague plans to “actually get organised”, “deep clean entire backyard”, “wardrobe overhaul”. But somewhere between that second coffee on Saturday morning and Monday afternoon, your ambitious to-dos have become overwhelming, and your energy has significantly waned. Sunday scaries roll straight into Monday scaries, and the lingering, irritating feeling that you didn’t quite make the most of your Bank Holiday weekend.
Here’s the thing: the best long weekends aren’t the ones where you refurbish your entire life. They’re the ones where you pick a few small, satisfying wins – the kind that make the week ahead feel easier, without eating into the actual enjoyment of having time off.
If you’re after that “I’ve got it together” feeling (without spending three days chasing it, or cannibalising your social life), start here.
