The state capital of Texas offers an eclectic mix of laidback design styles and its many homes reflect these sensibilities.

While you can’t fit all of Austin in a box, taking a peek into the abodes of its most stylish residents, it’s easy to find a common thread. Natural materials are big here, with thoughtful uses of wood and woven textures often sighted. And whether the direction skews more earthy or eclectic, a strong point of view is always present.

Set on a one-acre lot filled with leafy trees and beautiful views, Camille Styles and her partner built their Austin home from the ground up over the course of two years. The interiors are awash in an earthy colour palette with natural materials such as raw clay tile, woven light fixtures, and wood cabinetry. The result? A calm, zen-infused environment you’ll want to translate to your own home.

2. Farmhouse minimalism via @clairezinnecker

This Austin-based interior designer is known for her clean, calming designs that speak to pastoral sensibilities. Her home is no different, with standouts including her lovely bathroom that features a standalone tub positioned in front of a tall window that gazes out over rolling greenery. With a background in fine art and interior design, it’s only natural that designer Shannon Eddings’s work speaks to a refined mix of old-world and contemporary references. This historic home in Austin she designed lovingly stays true to its traditional spirit – but with thoughtful updates. The wooden ceiling beams were painted darker to create a moody vibe, dramatic wallpaper draws the eye toward the fireplace, and a unique glass chandelier sits above a long wooden table.

Austin-based creative translates the chic surf shack aesthetic to her laidback home through natural materials like mixed woods and woven light fixtures. Personalised touches come by way of ceramic and clay planters, book stacks, and a retro record player.

Vintage seller Tazeen Noor-Mclaughlin and her partner relocated from NYC to Austin and renovated their new home into a sun-drenched oasis. Creative and Woke Beauty founder Riley Reed sources pieces from refurbished furniture stores, flea markets, and local social media accounts to create a home environment that all drives back to her design ethos of getting as much as possible out of as little as possible.
