Opinion: You Should Book Your Next Holiday Based on the Accommodation

We can't be the only ones who immediately head over to a hotel's Instagram page to scroll through their gallery and to get an idea of how it looks in real life from travellers' tagged photos. You can't underestimate the power of a strong Instagram in creating a lifestyle that makes us want to jump on the next available flight. Speaking of, your flight and airline is a super important part of any trip because the quality of snacks and amount of legroom available is kind of a make or break situation for any holiday. What's more important, though, is the accommodation. You want to feel like you're a local in whatever city you're visiting, and a unique (and clean) hotel or boutique Airbnb can enhance your experience exponentially. We've listed some of our favourites that we've been collecting for our ultimate travel bucket list.

Riad Shiraz (@riadshiraz)

If Marrakech isn't yet on your radar, you should start by scrolling through this incredible, private riad whose jewel-toned pools and textured concrete walls will have you swooning instantly. Made up of just four suites, this boutique accommodation option is super private and completely dreamy. Head to the panoramic rooftop terrace for showstopping views and the ideal spot for an Insta opportunity.

Joshua Tree Acres (@joshuatreetacres)

Every time I hear a friend talk about their trip to Joshua Tree it makes me feel like a magical part of the world that will inevitably change your life. I've personally been aching to spend some time travelling the state of California (ideally in a convertible) and Joshua Tree Acres seems like the perfect spot to bask in the unique ambience of the sacred desert. You get to choose from a range of custom airstreams and accom options within an artists retreat village.

Le Sirenuse (@lesirenuse)

I was lucky enough to travel to Positano in Italy last year to experience firsthand the iconic shots that have been splayed across Insta since the region started trending a few years ago. You can't miss Le Sirenuse's rich, ochre-red facade when you're in town and once you're inside the lobby you understand why it's the top spot to stay. In the meantime, live vicariously through their dreamy Insta feed.

Slow Beam (@slow_beam)

This bold guest house in Tasmania is set amongst "a backdrop of gums, rocks & river views". Whether you're in the freestanding tub or doing some light reading at the desk, the sweeping vistas visible from Slow Beam are sights you'll never forget. The plethora of curated professional photographs on their grid will let you feel like you're right there.

The Still (@thestillshoalbay)

Keeping things in the country, this four-bedroom holiday home is located in the beachside town of Shoal Bay, known to locals and travellers as a prime spot for swimming, surfing and unwinding. The Still's peachy, pastel palette gives us a 70s vibe which is further accentuated by a pink velvet sofa and loads of natural timber furniture. If the sand and on-trend interiors are your thing, this might just be your next perfect getaway.

Casa Cook (@casacookhotels)

With two equally breathtaking locations under their belt, Casa Cook Hotels are a go-to on Insta or a quick dose of design inspiration. You've got the option of booking their luxe Rhodes hotel in Greece or their stylish El Gouda desert location in Egypt. Take a peek at all of the bohemian goodness but be warned, you might be a while.

Hotel Les Roches Rouges (@lesrochesrouges)

The French Riviera is synonymous with style, luxury, and the good life. It's one of the destinations we'd like to visit next and ideally, we'd be staying at Hotel Les Roches Rouges. From the ocean rockpool to the burnt orange sun umbrellas, there's not a post from these guys that doesn't give us massive FOMO. It's the type of place you could walk around barefoot and accidentally bump into a movie star.

The Estate Trentham (@the_estate_trentham)

If you've ever dreamed of a weekend away in a leafy town surrounded by cute boutiques and original cottages, The Estate in Trentham, Victoria should be on your radar. We were lucky enough to recently capture owner and interior designer Lynda Gardener in the country retreat as part of our ongoing series, The Makers. The picture-perfect cottage is like something out of a nursery rhyme, with whimsical gardens and a curated country-meets-contemporary fit-out.
