We Asked 8 People What Sleeping on Cotton Sheets Feels Like – Here's What They Said
From lifelong loyalists to recent converts and material mix-and-matchers.
When Bed Threads was founded in 2017, it was because our founders Genevieve and Alan couldn’t find exactly what they were looking for – super-high quality, 100% French flax linen bedding in a range of stunning colours that can be styled together in unique combinations. Now, Bed Threads linen is world renowned for its comfort, durability, and beautiful palette.
But we know that everyone is different. Some people love to switch up their bedding material with each season, some like each piece of their bedscape to be made from a different fibre, and some just love the feeling of a crisp, cotton sheet set.
That's why, eight years in, we’ve listened to your feedback and have added a line of organic cotton bedding to our range. After years of sampling, testing, and refining, we’ve introduced smooth, breathable cotton in a percale weave that delivers that fresh-sheet feeling night after night. Now, there’s something for everyone.
If you’ve been with us for a while, you’re probably very familiar with the lush, cosy feel of linen sheets. But if you’re tossing up whether to dabble in cotton, we asked some of our team members and creative collaborators to share what makes this material such a dreamy addition to your bedroom rotation.
Mélanie Masarin, founder of Ghia
A later-in-life cotton convert, Mélanie has decked out the bed in her stunning New York City apartment with one of our new curated bundles. With her impeccable taste and discerning eye, it’s no surprise that she chose one of our best-selling combinations for her home. “I grew up in an old house in the South of France full of antiques and old linens, so sleeping in cotton bedding feels really soft to me!” says Mélanie. “It feels clean and breathable, it’s not fragile. I hate the feeling of being trapped in synthetic fabrics and always get better sleep if I feel like my body can breathe.”
Favourite cotton combination: Vanilla, Crisp White & Berry.
Tanya, Bed Threads Customer Service Specialist
One of our resident product experts and colour enthusiast, Tanya, has been mixing up her bedding for years. She says “To me, linen feels softer and warmer for bed covers, but I like a crisp cotton Fitted Sheet and soft, washed cotton Pillowcases.” Tanya has curated her bed down to an art: “I have four pillows (two cotton and two linen pillowcases) plus a mix of European Pillowcases too. Then, a linen Duvet Cover and Flat Sheet because I love the way it falls.”
Favourite cotton combination: Apple and Vanilla Build Your Own Bundle.
Courtney Adamo, author and content creator
After a decade of sleeping in linen, Courtney Adamo is mixing it up by adding cotton to her rotation. In keeping with her coastal style, she’s opted for our Aegean colourway, reminiscent of the sparkling Mediterranean waters. “I grew up sleeping in cotton sheets, so there is something about it that reminds me of childhood and summertime,” she says. “It also somehow feels fancy to sleep on crisp, cotton bedding. It feels light and perfect for summer’s warmer weather.”
Favourite cotton combination: Aegean & Crisp White.
Amy, Bed Threads Bookkeeper
Amy is a die-hard cotton fan and was excited when we introduced the fibre into our range so she could experience it the Bed Threads way. “I've been using cotton since I was a kid as my mom loves cotton. It feels soft and breathable and it has a light, airy, and cooling texture that doesn't irritate my skin,” she says.
Favourite cotton combination: I’ve ordered Espresso and Vanilla but I also love Crisp White, Apple, and Moss. Can I say all of them!?
Lana Wilman, Managing Director at Aphrodite Agency
When we visited Lana in her bright London home, it was obvious that the vibrant cotton range was perfect for her dopamine décor interiors. And with Euro summer in full force, cotton was an ideal pick for long, hot nights. We designed our cotton for optimum air circulation with a 200-thread count weave, meaning the threads are woven loose enough to feel light and breathable but still ultra-smooth and soft. So naturally, Lana lauded her sheets as “Super cool and comfortable!” for year-round use.
Charlotte, Bed Threads Creative Director
It will come as no surprise that Charlotte takes a creative approach to her bedroom setup, combining layers of different colours and fibres. “I have actually been using a mix of cotton and Linen for a few years now, I love them both for different reasons... I'm not sure if you are supposed to mix them but it's my guilty pleasure!” In terms of the sleep experience, she describes sleeping on cotton as giving that “fresh hotel vibe, smooth, crisp and luxurious.”
Favourite cotton combination: Honestly it is so hard to pick. It's a tight race between Espresso, Vanilla and Apple. I'd probably even do all three to make a mint choc chip moment in the bedroom!
Mariko Kuo, Lawyer and Content Creator
The queen of chic Japandi interiors, Mariko Kuo knows a thing or two about what it takes to style a luxe home. To her, cotton bedding is reminiscent of nights spent on vacation, both in the look and feel of the fabric. "It's like sleeping in a hotel bed on a tropical island — it feels incredibly luxurious to the touch. It makes me want to cuddle the entire bed while keeping me cool, comfortable and perfectly relaxed for the best night’s sleep," she says.
Favourite cotton combination: Vanilla & Butterscotch
Arabella Peterson, Bed Threads Managing Editor
Growing up in Sydney, hot nights are par for the course, so breathable, natural materials have always been a non-negotiable. I tend to switch between linen and cotton depending on the season or my mood – they each offer something unique. But I especially love the feeling of slipping into freshly-washed cotton sheets on a warm evening. It feels like a cool breeze brushing against your skin – smooth, crisp, and instantly calming.
Favourite cotton combination: Apple & Moss.
