15 New TV Shows To Get Excited About This October
From the 90s-set coming-of-age series, 'Boots', to the much-anticipated return of Netflix hit 'Nobody Wants This', these are the 15 new TV shows to get excited about in October.
October brings with it many things – a full moon in Aries, a change of wardrobe, and Halloween décor galore. But among the seasonal changes and spooky dangers are 15 other reasons to get excited this month, and all are one press of play away.
For the coming-of-age fans, Miles Heizer stars as a bullied teen who joins the Marine Corps in Boots, while true crime connoisseurs can devour Devil in Disguise: John Wayne Gacy, based on the true story of America’s notorious Killer Clown. Netflix’s most popular political drama The Diplomat drops its third season, while everyone’s favourite actress, Emma Thompson, returns to TV in crime thriller Down Cemetery Road. Throw in a second season of rom-com Nobody Wants This and a three-part Posh-fest in her new docuseries, Victoria Beckham, and you’re spoiled for choice this October.
1. Boots
Where Can I Watch It? Netflix
Inspired by Greg Cope White’s off-beat coming-of-age memoir The Pink Marine, this eight-episode comedic drama takes us inside the US Marine Corps boot camp. Set in the 90s, Miles Heizer plays Cameron Cope, a bullied, closeted gay teen who joins the Marine Corps at a time when it was illegal to be openly gay in the military. Joined by his straight best bud Ra McAffey (played by Liam Oh), this witty, irreverent, and at times quite eloquent series explores themes of friendship, resilience and self-discovery in an environment built to test physical and emotional limits.
2. The Chair Company
Where Can I Watch It? HBO Max
Don’t let the somewhat drab title fool you – The Chair Company will have you on the edge of your seat! Starring (and co-written by) Tim Robinson of I Think You Should Leave fame, this conspiracy-fuelled series is another example of the unorthodox brand of comedy we’ve come to expect from Robinson. In it, William Ronald Trosper (Robinson) suffers an embarrassing incident at his workplace, leading him down a rabbit hole of investigation and suspicion. Lake Bell, Sophia Lillis, Will Price, and Joseph Tudisco flesh out the cast in this truly unique comedy based on the most unfunniest of premises: office chairs.
3. Devil in Disguise: John Wayne Gacy
Where Can I Watch It? Binge
We’re used to watching him in loveable Labrador-type roles in both Severance and Orange Is the New Black, but prepare to see Michael Chernus as you've never seen him before. Donning his clown nose to become one of history’s most depraved serial killers, Chernus plays John Wayne Gacy, AKA the ‘Killer Clown’ who lived his life as a party performer by day and murderer by night. Based on the 2021 Peacock docuseries of the same name, this eight-ep scripted limited series explores Gacy’s heinous crimes and the far-reaching impact they had on his victim’s families, the Illinois community, and beyond.
4. The Diplomat: Season 3
Where Can I Watch It? Netflix
With the state of politics in 2025 oft-resembling a darkly comedic TV show, you’d be forgiven for wondering whether The Diplomat is a documentary or a scripted drama. Alas, it’s definitely the latter, and a brilliant one at that. Starring Keri Russell and Rufus Sewell as married Ambassadors Kate and Hal Wyler, the wildly popular political thriller follows dishevelled diplomat Kate through some truly spectacular plot twists, with season 3 promising to explore the major career implications of season 2’s cliffhanger finale, as the target on Kate’s back grows bigger than her crush on Foreign Secretary Austin Dennison.
5. DMV
Where Can I Watch It? Binge
Ah, the DMV. To know it is to loathe it. A place where patience is a virtue, and efficiency is a myth. What better place to set a comedy series? Created by Dana Klein (Friends, 9JKL), follows the underpaid and over-it staff of East Hollywood’s Department of Motor Vehicles branch in this new single-camera comedy borrowing notes from The Office. Starring Colin from Accounts icon Harriet Dyer, this lol-heavy series covers everything from workplace politics to dryly hilarious interactions with customers at the end of their tether. Can relate.
6. Down Cemetery Road
Where Can I Watch It? Apple TV+
It’s been six years since we’ve seen Dame Emma Thompson on a TV screen, but rom-com’s Royal Highness has finally made her return. Starring alongside The Affair’s Ruth Wilson, Thompson plays Zoë Boehm, a private investigator who uncovers the mystery of a missing child post-house fire. Based on Slow Horses author Mick Herron’s 2003 novel of the same name, this eight-ep crime thriller unravels a complex conspiracy fuelled by secrets and deception, arriving just in time for the spookiest of seasons.
7. Ghosts: Season 5
Where Can I Watch It? Paramount+
Many people are sceptical when there’s a US remake of a popular British comedy, but Ghosts has proven itself to be a hit in its own right. In this sitcom, couple Sam and Jay, inherit a crumbling country estate, poised to renovate it into a B&B. To their surprise, the home is already occupied by the spirits who met their end on the property over the last few hundred years. Premiering in time for spooky season, the fifth instalment of Ghosts is set to be filled with all the heart and hilarity we’ve come to expect. Right from the get go, Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar) faces off against the conniving Elias (Matt Walsh) after the big season four cliffhanger (no spoilers here). Hopefully with a little help from the ragtag group of unlikely spectres, Jay can avoid total disaster.
8. It: Welcome to Derry
Where Can I Watch It? HBO Max
Again, speaking of spooky season, what’s scarier than Pennywise, a predatory clown painting the town blood-red with a balloon? A prequel series to the wildly popular It horror films, It: Welcome to Derry expands the supernatural horror series, chronicling the events of the 1960s that lead to Stephen King’s first It film. Bill Skarsgård will reprise his role as the iconic child-killing clown, with Jordan Adepo, Chris Chalk, James Remar, Stephen Rider, and Madeleine Stowe also boarding the terror train to Spooktown. Population? All of us.
9. The Last Frontier
Where Can I Watch It? Apple TV+
Dubbed ‘Con-Air with snowshoes’, Apple TV+’s latest action thriller sees a prison transport plane crash in the remote Alaskan wilderness. Australia’s own Jason Clarke stars as Frank Remnick, the lone U.S. marshal suddenly thrown into a perilous pursuit of dozens of dangerous inmates who escaped the plane crash. But was it an accident? Alongside Clarke, the 10-ep season also stars Dominic Cooper, Haley Bennett, Simone Kessell, and Dallas Goldtooth.
10. Loot: Season 3
Where Can I Watch It? Apple TV+
Not so much a riches-to-rags story, but more of a riches-to-reality arc, Loot centres on Molly Novak – played by the iconic Maya Rudolph – a billionaire whose seemingly perfect life implodes after divorcing her tech-mogul husband. Discovering she owns a charity that she’s barely aware of, she decides to get involved in an attempt to find purpose and rebuild her once shallow and opulent life. In season three, ongoing romantic tension between Molly and Arthur might finally be addressed, while the threads of big decisions, personal stakes, and the complications of wealth meeting real world issues explored in sharper, more surprising ways. An underrated gem, Loot continues to shine as one of TV’s smartest comedies.
11. Love Is Blind: Season 9
Where Can I Watch It? Netflix
Love it or hate it, reality TV is the ultimate guilty pleasure – and fans can’t get enough of Netflix’s Love Is Blind. Co-host Vanessa Lachey has teased that “something happens… that has never happened on any of the Love Is Blind” seasons before, calling it “the most shocking” yet. Consider us intrigued. In case you’ve never seen the show before, the basic premise sees singles date without ever seeing each other, forming connections through “pods” before deciding whether to get engaged sight unseen. As you can imagine, each season has its fair share of romance and heartbreak – and presumably, season nine will deliver both in spades.
12. Nobody Wants This: Season 2
Where Can I Watch It? Netflix
Never judge a show by its name, because a lot of people must want this if it’s back for a season two. Rom-com lovers are in for a treat, with Kristen Bell and Adam Brody returning to tell part two of their unlikely love story. Show creator Erin Foster’s loosely autobiographical story follows Noah, a rabbi, and Joanne, a sex-positive podcaster as they navigate culture and customs in this messy modern dating world. Season two picks up where the finale left off, with Noah making a major life decision for love. Joining the cast is Brody’s real-life spouse, Leighton Meester, as well as Arian Moayed (Stewy from Succession) and Alex Karpovsky (Ray from Girls).
13. The Resurrected
Where Can I Watch It? Netflix
Announced as part of Netflix’s growing slate of original Taiwanese dramas, The Resurrected is another chilling show to add to your Halloween lineup. In the streets of the fictional city of Benkha, the story follows two grieving mothers bound by vengeance. When their daughters become victims of a brutal fraud and kidnapping scheme, the women strike a desperate bargain with a mysterious goddess: to bring back the man responsible from the dead – for punishment. What begins as a ruthless crusade quickly spirals into something far darker, as their hunger for retribution deepens
14. Typhoon Family
Where Can I Watch It? Netflix
You haven't experienced TV this addictive until you've watched a K-Drama. Typhoon Family plunges viewers into South Korea’s 1997 financial crisis through the eyes of a generation coming of age in turbulent times. Kang Tae-poong is a carefree member of Seoul’s flashy “Orange Tribe” whose world flips when he’s forced to trade privilege for responsibility as the reluctant CEO of a failing company. Alongside him, there's Oh Mi-seon, a determined eldest daughter balancing family duty with career ambition in a male-dominated world. Brimming with 90s nostalgia, the series charts a journey of survival and transformation in the face of crisis
15. Victoria Beckham
Where Can I Watch It? Netflix
Her quick quips and Rolls-Royce whips stole the show in her husband’s iconic Beckham docuseries, and now it’s time to tell Posh’s story in full. From her English upbringing to becoming a global pop sensation and high fashion heroine, Victoria’s life story is one of ambition, reinvention, and exquisite style. Featuring insights from fashion-forward friends Tom Ford, Anna Wintour and Eva Longoria, this three-part docuseries promises to lift the lid on all things Posh Spice, alongside some Beckham banter from everyone’s favourite pot-stirring husband.
